Experienced Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers – Legal Aid, Court of Protection & Inter Partes Costs
SPH Costs is expanding. Due to continued growth across our specialist practice areas, we are recruiting experienced Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers to join our team.
We are a specialist legal costs practice acting exclusively in costs work. Our instructions come from solicitors nationwide and cover Legal Aid and CCMS claims, Court of Protection costs, and inter partes (between the parties) costs disputes for both paying and receiving parties.
This is an opportunity for experienced costs professionals to work in a firm where costs drafting and assessment are treated as specialist disciplines, not administrative tasks.
The Roles Available
We are seeking Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Preparation of Legal Aid costs claims
-
CCMS submissions, amendments, and post-assessment work
-
High Cost Case Plans (HCCPs) and variations
-
Liaison with the Legal Aid Agency and management of payment processes
Court of Protection Costs Drafting
-
Preparation of Court of Protection bills, including General Management Costs
-
Matters assessed by the Senior Courts Costs Office (SCCO)
-
Structuring narratives and evidencing complexity
-
Working with Deputies and solicitors on ongoing and multi-year matters
Inter Partes (Between the Parties) Costs
-
Drafting Bills of Costs for paying and receiving parties
-
Points of Dispute and Replies
-
Costs budgeting and budget variations
-
Negotiation and preparation for detailed assessment
You may specialise in one discipline or work across multiple areas, depending on your experience and preference.
Who We’re Looking For
This role is aimed at experienced Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have:

Practical experience drafting Bills of Costs

Confidence working on contested and assessed costs matters
-
Strong procedural knowledge (CPR, SCCO practice, Legal Aid framework)
-
A careful, analytical approach to recoverability and risk
-
The ability to manage files independently and meet deadlines
You do not need to be a qualified Costs Lawyer to apply.
Experienced Costs Draftsmen are actively encouraged to apply.
