Shaun Higginbotham

Founder and MD

Shaun started his career in costs in 1988 with a local firm of Law Costs Draftsmen until joining a large regional firm of solicitors in 1990 where he ultimately became the Head of Costs and lead Costs Advocate. During this period, Shaun acted in all manner of Costs matters to include the HIV multi party litigation. In 1995, he founded SPH Costing Services and attracted a client base who appreciated his commercial and pragmatic approach to costs. He also dealt with all of the firm’s advocacy and was described by a District Judge as "exceptionally competent and sound".

Shaun qualified as an Associate (AALCD) in 1994 and subsequently as a Fellow (FALCD) of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen, before qualifying in the first tranche of Costs Lawyers to be admitted in July 2007. He has approaching 30 years in the Costs Industry and is a former Tutor for the  Association of Law Costs Draftsmen. He has vast experience of both Claimant & Defendant costs and has overseen the successful processing of tens of millions of pounds of Solicitors’ fees in all manner of Civil Litigation. A hands on leader with a passion for providing economic and effective costs solutions to a wide range of key stakeholders in the Legal Industry.

Andrew Armson LLB

Andrew began working in the Costs Industry in the Midlands in 1993 and, following joining SPH Costing Services in 1998, qualified as an Associate (AALCD) in 2002 and then as a Fellow (FALCD) in 2004 of the Association of Law Costs Draftsman, before also qualifying in the first tranche of Costs Lawyers to be admitted in July 2007.

Throughout his career, Andrew has accumulated a wealth of experience in conducting costs claims for both paying and receiving parties and, further, has represented clients as Advocate on in excess of 2,500 Detailed Assessments, Appeals and associated hearings from the County Courts, through the Court of Appeal and to the Supreme Court.

Andrew is an Accredited Training Provider through the Association of Costs Lawyers (ACL).

Andrew Jones LLB
Director - Northampton

Andrew is a Director based at our Northampton Office. Prior to joining SPH, he spent 10 years as a personal injury lawyer before moving into the world of costs in 1996, ultimately becoming Chief Executive of a major bulk costs negotiation service provider to leading insurers.  He moved to SPH Costing Services in 2007 and in addition to bringing vast experience of conducting Defendant cases, he deals with many of our Clinical Negligence cases and is one of our key Advocates on all types of costs hearings. Andrew deals with all aspects of civil costs including Bill drafting, Budget preparation, negotiations on Budgets and matters more generally, together with preparation of Points of Dispute and Replies. Alison Bradbury
Director of Billing

Alison joined SPH in 2009 and is a Director based in our Leyland office.

Alison has worked in the costs industry since 1993 and has extensive experience in preparing both Bills and Budgets in complex and high value Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Industrial Disease matters. She has a particular expertise in preparing bills where Case Management orders have been made in the Multi-Track. Alison also prepares Bills for matters in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Alison prepares bills on legally aid cases, in both family and civil matters together with claims on CCMS.  Alison has a detailed knowledge of Court of Protection matters and is a member of CoPPA.

Rachel Hutt BA FCL
Costs Lawyer

Rachel is a Senior Costs Lawyer based in our Leyland office.

She has worked within Costs Litigation for many years, joining SPH Costing Services in 2009 and qualifying as a Costs Lawyer in 2013.

Rachel has extensive experience in drafting large and complex Bills of Costs along with Costs Budgets particularly in clinical negligence matters.  She has experience in drafting Bills of Costs in matters which have been case managed.

Rachel has vast experience in costing Legally Aided matters and specialises in High Costs Case plans, Bills of Costs, Claim1’s, Claim1A’s. and claims for submission via CCMS. Rachel has particularly expertise in care proceedings using the events based model.
